‘Birchwood Best’

In September 2024, we launched our new whole school award programme, ‘Birchwood Best’.

All students have been invited to complete a series of challenges appropriate to their year/age group, working towards pledge passport completion and a badge they can wear with pride.

The age appropriate and progressive challenges will engage students in all aspects of school life whilst also empowering them to try new activities and develop new skills. All pledges/criteria link to our school motto of ‘Aspiration, Knowledge, Kindness’.

KS3 students will work towards a bronze award, Year 10 will work towards silver and Year 11 towards gold. This progressive award pledge  system will ensure students are engaged and motivated during their 5-year journey at Birchwood.

The achievement criteria vary by age group but include activities such as:

  • Regularly attend an enrichment activity
  • To represent the school in sports, contribute to Performing Arts events or subject specific event
  • To attend cultural or sports events outside of school
  • To have at least ‘good’ (95%) attendance
  • To read aloud lessons or more occasions and engage in wider reading for pleasure
  • Contribute to a whole school event
